Programme of events in 2010 being run by WES Area 11 members.

Western Riding enthusiasts and those curious about the disciplines involved in Western Riding will be made very welcome.

 Dear All

WES Area 11 Programme of Events for 2010

Towards the end of last year our regular attendees met and agreed that they would like to have a series of days where they could improve their riding skills with some structured practice.  As you can see we are again making use of the facilities at my home in Blackford Glen, Edinburgh, where Margaret Ross and I keep our horses.  This year we intend to ride at every session.  For those non-members and others reading this on the internet, I have an outdoor riding arena, a round pen, toilets and a howff with catering facilities.

I have set aside five practice days before Bob Mayhew’s visit on 22 and 23 May.  He has agreed that, at that time, he will assess our progress.  After then, I have scheduled six practice days before Bob’s next visit, on 14 and 15 August, when he will again assess our progress.  I expect that some of us will want individual lessons from Bob over these two weekends.  These will have to be booked so, please do so early.

In addition to the practice days, I have arranged trail rides to be hosted by a few of our members in various estates and forests.  Those of us who attended last year’s trail rides had good times.  Here again, for those out there who might feel like trail riding, please call me or e:mail me and do not let lack of Western tack stop you.

My apologies to WES Area 11 members for my failure to arrange an AGM this year but the weather was dreadful. If anyone feels let down by this, I would urge you to come to Blackford Glen to enjoy the company of Area 11 members and discuss anything that troubles you.

I urge all of the members of WES Area 11who have not made themselves known to me to come and meet our regulars.  Bring your horses or just come with family and friends.  You will be made welcome at any of our gatherings.  If circumstances make that impossible, then please get in touch by email, telephone or by letter.  I would be pleased to hear from you and find out what you do with your horses.

Yours sincerely

 John

Booking Process for Bob Mayhew’s Clinics

Questions about the weekends can be asked of Margaret Ross on 0771 201 6677 or John Fyfe on 07957 555 989.

During his visits, Bob will be assessing the progress made by those who have participated in the structured practice sessions this year. Bob will, of course, also be teaching individual riders and their horses.  However, for allocation of places, we will be considering the number of horses. i.e. if we have a total of 20 sessions available then we will give the first 20 horses a place. Applications will be considered on a first-come first-served basis.

Apply early for individual horse sessions to Margaret Ross by E:mail at margaret@weseleven.com giving the following information:-

  • Name and full postal address.
  • Name of horse
  • The number of sessions being requested for each horse and on which days.
  • Confirmation of the amount that that number of sessions will cost.
  • Whether overnight stabling or grazing is desired and, if so, on which night(s).

On receipt of the above information, and after we have processed the applications, Margaret will send applicants a payment request form which will confirm the sessions offered. This form should be returned with an enclosed cheque, in the appropriate sum, made payable to “WES Area 11”. (No cheque, no booking.)

Don’t be afraid to ask for more than one session per horse on either day but if we have more enquiries than places over the week end then, in fairness, we may have to reduce an individual’s booking in order to allow someone else a single session.

N.B. Clinicians are paid by the day and their expenses, air fares, etc. have also to be covered. Tuition sessions, therefore, have to be paid for before bookings are accepted.  Refunds on cancelled bookings will not be given if that place is not taken up by another paying rider.
